PROLOGUE
The accompanying documents were developed by me for the construction of the concrete structure depicted in the drawn documents. I served as contractor for the construction of the structure and its "skin". The residence was built in an arid region with the finish floor above initial grade. Little concern about ground water penetration existed and only a level one moisture barrier was used. In more common circumstances, I would also adhere externally a protected, tough, and flexible "water proofing" membrane or skin (the choices vary) and a base drain, which is a continuous ground water drain installed around the foundation slab, commonly known as a French drain. Details for such a drain are included.
DESCRIPTION
The
structure depicted in these documents is the concrete shell for a dwelling
on level ground with earth bermed full height up the three exterior walls.
It has a maximum of 3 feet of earth on the roof. The Earth-Cover is graded
(sloped) to the berms. There is a Solar Chimney in the roof to provide
ventilation, natural light and systems tie-ins.
The structure consists of a cast-in-place, thick,
steel-reinforced concrete flat-slab foundation keyed into cast-in-place, flat-slab
walls, which have cast-in-place beams keyed into them. The precast-prestressed
plank roof structure has a reinforced concrete topping. Two large interior columns,
two exterior columns at the exposed side and braced cantilevered retaining walls
at the porch complete the all reinforced concrete structure. All plumbing drains
are cast in the foundation.
