A.   Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: a book in progress

This manuscript is of a book I have been working on (and off) for eight years. Several fine publishers have had only kind words to offer, so the book is presented here in late manuscript form with some photos, charts and drawings absent.

I hope presenting the book in this manner will give encouragement to others. We need more proposals about better habitats. The new urbanism and green movements are most welcome beginnings.

Pages 116 and 123, both 11 x 17 inches, are at the back of the book to assist those wishing to print.

Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 1 (24.76 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 2 (4.14 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 3 Part A Pages 1-10 (17.57 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 3 Part B Pages 11-20 (50.40 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 3 Part C Pages 21-30 (80.92 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 3 Part D Pages 31-39 (48.55 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 4 (32.50 MB)
Earth-Integrated Human Habitats: Chapter 5 (39.67 MB)

With best wishes to you and yours,

Sincerely,

Frank L. Moreland

Note: Anyone wishing to contribute a photo, plan, drawing, chart or statement is invited to send a copyrighted copy and permission, and occasionally some of them will be added to the book, with credit. Paper copies are preferred to the address at the top.

B.   Construction Books by Moreland

There are four technical books, two books each for two actual dwellings by Frank Moreland. For each dwelling there is a book (Book One) regarding the size and configuration of the various materials and components of the concrete structure and its "skin", and a book (Book Two) regarding everything else except the final earth cover sculpting and utility lines beyond the tie-in locations. That is, BOOK TWO deals with the Exteriors (porches, roof caps and all exposed walls), Interiors (the usual, including built-ins), and Systems (plumbing, power, lighting, and HVAC for a hot to temperate arid climate), while BOOK ONE deals with the concrete structure and its "skin".

These books include copies of the actual construction documents for these dwellings, including details and specifications. No cost information is included. The level of completeness and clarity is unusual, for example, regarding Book One, the cut/bend sheets for the reinforcing steel are included, as are the instructions and labels of major products used, and the quantities of materials actually used (tons, pounds, cubic yards, gallons, square feet, lineal inches & feet, etc.), and even the time and crews required for construction, as well as production schedules. With these books very accurate cost estimates can be made quickly and easily.

These books reveal more about a building than can usually be found. Moreover, they bring the information together in a succinct and useful manner. These books are intended for serious readers, professionals and lay alike, and hopefully, they will serve as DNA for the furthering of the species.

RE: My four books: these documents are mostly 8.5 x 11 inch pages, but a few pages are 11 x 14 or 11 x 17, interspersed with the 8.5 x 11 pages. While the larger pages fold easily into 3-ring notebooks, they can pose difficulties for some printers.
